About this experience & host
The Cathedral of Reims, place of coronation of the kings of France, a UNESCO site, is the essential first step of your stay in Champagne.
A time to visit the Cathedral is planned after having given you all the secrets outside.
We will pass to join it by the "Colline Saint-Nicaise" of Reims, also listed on the world heritage of humanity.
Famous Champagne Houses (Ruinart, Taittinger, Veuve Clicquot ...) have exploited their chalk quarries there since the end of the 18th century.
Then, we will continue the visits with another essential site classified as World Heritage by UNESCO : the "Avenue de Champagne" of Epernay, the capital of the Champagne vineyards.
It is considered the most expensive Avenue in the world with its prestigious Champagne Houses, its private hotels and its 100 kilometers of cellars which hide 200 million bottles !
Then, we will visit very famous villages, the rare villages where the historic hillsides, planted with Grand cru or 1er cru vines, were classified in 2015 as UNESCO World Heritage.
You will have lunch tasting a bottle of champagne from the village of Aÿ Champagne and saber your bottle like Napoleon !
Did you know that my village of Aÿ (just 5 min. from Epernay and 35 min. from Reims) was the main center of the champagne industry and still has a very special place?
The kings of France had their own presses there from the 16th century and the wines of Champagne were formerly called "Wines of Aÿ ".
We will stop in front of the headquarters of the prestigious Champagne Houses of Aÿ such as Bollinger and Deutz before joining its UNESCO-listed hillsides where I will tell you about the work of the vine, the grape varieties, this exceptional Terroir , sustainable viticulture...
An additional stop at the famous Clos Saint Jacques owned by the Maison de Champagne Bollinger is planned to admire ungrafted vines.
We will visit a local producer (the best addresses for locals:) who will explain the process of making his champagne in his winery, cellars ... and of course you will taste his champagnes !
And do you really know who Dom Pérignon is ? You will be surprised by the real story ...
I will show you in the vineyards on the hillsides also classified by UNESCO of the famous village of Hautvillers "cradle of champagne" where all his experiments took place.
We will then go to thank him in the church where he officiated and where he now rests forever !
An additional stop at the most beautiful panoramic view of Champagne over the Marne Valley is also planned!
Do you know the 3 spirits of Champagne : Ratafia, Fine of Marne and Marc of Champagne ?
I also plan to let you know them.
